Since the early 90s, Lello Torchia, stands out by balanced and elegant works that leave space to a perception of abstract thought and a sense of indefinite and unresolved. In 1999 the first exhibition Il bosco sacro dell’arte, at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, in Naples. Few months later the first solo exhibition, at Salerno, in the monumental Temple of Pomona. With exhibitions of 2001, in Verona (Scala Art Gallery) and Salerno (Gallery Studio 34), he claims a style in which the waiver and subtraction become strength and significance.
In 2003 he won the Mail Art Prize in Pécs, which is followed by several exhibitions, including Vestigia tenère (Congress Centre, in Brno) and Charta III (LM, in Bordeaux). The following year another three solo shows In colore (Franco Riccardo Artivisive, in Naples), Tempo (Gallery Arteincontri, in Modena) and Lello Torchia (Casina Pompeiana, in Naples). Then in 2005 he had the exhibition 20 Monochromes, at the Collection Goor-Beerens, in Bruges. In his works figuration assumes outlines increasingly faint, to dominate is the absence that becomes a tangible symbol the fleetingness of human existence. In 2009 he participated in the exhibition Il disegno sfogliato, at the Biblioteca Civica di Brescia and he had a solo exhibition at The White Gallery, in Milan. In 2011, he had the exhibition Bianco-Nero, at the Ex Studio Gallery, in Lugano and the following year he had an exhibitions in the Castello Aragonese di Agropoli and then a solo exhibition, Vanitas, at The White Gallery, in Milan. In 2013, he had the exhibition Transit, at the Karazin University (Kharkiv), Notturno at the Museo Archeologico di Calatia (Maddaloni) and subsequently, among others, Enigma, at Pàlacio Foz (Lisboa), a solo exhibition at the Fonte di San Nicolò (Assisi) and at the Hadrian's Wall (Humshaugh). He has recently exhibited in three solo shows: Bilico, at the Complesso Museale delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco (Naples); La grammatica dell’esistenza, at the Fondazione Umberto Mastroianni - Centro Internazionale per le Arti Visive (Arpino); Refugio, at the Università degli Studi Suor Orsola Benincasa (Naples). His oeuvre has been extensively scrutinized with the recent short films Specula from 2018 and Refugio from 2021. Lello Torchia was born in Naples in 1971. |
